For contemporaries of the steam locomotive, today’s high-speed train, powered purely by electricity, quiet and very fast, would seem like science-fiction. Hyperloop could also be a technology that today still seems futuristic and unfamiliar to us, but which will one day be part of our way of travelling, just like the airplane or the express train today,” said President of the National Council Irène Kälin in her welcome address.

Doré de Morsier, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of EuroTube gave a presentation on the benefits of hyperloop and where the technology stands.

What hyperloop needs now to become a reality is that the gap between fundamental research at universities and applied research in the industry is bridged – that is where we as the EuroTube Foundation step in. We will provide testing facilities where industry, researchers and start-ups can work together to take hyperloop from prototype to product,” said de Morsier.

Dr. Lorenzo Benedetti, Director of R&D at EuroTube presented the market for hyperloop technology and upcoming projects in Europe.

These are exciting times for hyperloop technology development. More and more hyperloop projects are being announced, and some, even in Europe, are already in a tendering phase. So it is clear that hyperloop is coming and the market for technology providers will continue to grow over the coming years,” said Dr. Benedetti.

In addition, a panel of politicians and transport experts discussed the potential of Hyperloop technology for Switzerland. The guests included Swiss politicians, industry leaders, academia, and hyperloop experts from other European countries.

 * The panel discussion featured National Councillors Christian Wasserfallen (FDP) and Katja Christ (glp), moderator Pascal Krauthammer, Nicolas Ecoffey of SBB, and Doré de Morsier (from left).

The event was held in the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne, which also hosts an exhibit on hyperloop to which EuroTube contributed a prototype.
